Happy December! Is it cold where you are?
Winter in New York brings with it the rattling sounds and uncontrollable temperatures of steam radiators. I woke up in the wee hours of Monday morning because my room felt like a sauna. Even with my window open, it was 80 degrees.
A few years ago I learned that these radiators are a result of the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918. They were designed to fight airborne illness by overheating apartments so that windows could remain open on cold days, allowing fresh air to flow. Even though my radiators can be a major pain, I enjoy this fact.
And so, this week’s edition of don’t trust the algorithm is dedicated to steamy radiator heat. Hot songs for cold nights. I hope you enjoy!
See you next week!
